From the "Is It Just Me?" Department

Engadget is a pretty good site if you like to read the latest snippets on gadgetry; it wins all the awards and gets all the press. My gripe with it is this:

It takes FOR EVER to load! I mean, F O R E V E R !

It's not just a "don't tell me you're still on dialup" thing either. Gizmodo has about the same content on each page and loads in a tenth of the time. What's worse -- there's nothing to look at while it's loading. No placeholders for the images so you can at least be teased by the text, nothing but grayness for what seems like an eternity.

And thirteen meg podcasts that talk aimlessly about next to nothing? C'mon guys. Tighten it up a little...

A Big Ship

A big ship arrived in Auckland Friday morning. I don't know the name of it; it's probably the Something Princess (they invariably are). Anyway, it was due to arrive at 8:00 that morning so I went down to Devonport at 7:00 to see that it was already across the harbor being tied up. I dashed down to Stanley Point and got this rather lame shot.

I think if I wanted to really relax on a criuse I'd like the thing to be a little less top-heavy looking...
